Screening for drought tolerance in cowpea at the flowering stage

Drought is one of the major threats to cowpea productivity in tropical countries, and understanding its impacts germane ensuring food security a global context. The present study was established screen some accessions for drought tolerance at flowering stage pots under controlled conditions house. High significant differences were observed among wilting recovery traits, stomatal conductance, relative water content (RWC), terminal leaflet length (TLL) width (TLW), stem girth, yield parameters stress. In addition, stress caused reduction morphological traits RWC between initial final values. Based on cluster Principal Component Analysis (PCA), separated into different classes tolerance. Direct selection showing high heritability (≥ 60%), GAM 20%), PCA 0.4) will be effective. Hence, four determined: AC03, AC08, AC10 highly susceptible. AC01 AC04 moderately AC06, AC07, AC09 tolerant, while AC02 AC05 tolerant accessions. showed combination superior resistance wilting, rates, attributes. They also lower higher RWC, low TLW, girth compared susceptible ones.
